1. Last week, a senior student from the National College of Public Administration and Governance (NCPAG) died out of an alleged fraternity hazing. I would like to emphasize the word alleged for sensitivity's sake. Because apparently, some vice-chancellor says we should not yet say that it was out of fraternity hazing because it is not yet sure. Although according to the news, the investigations leads us into affirming that it was really out of fraternity hazing. Btw, the name of the boy who died is Cris Anthony Mendez. He was supposed to replace the College representative of NCPAG in the University Student Council after the former rep resigned from his position. He was one of my classmates in one of my first subjects in UP: Polsci 11.
I like patricia's article regarding this incident. Indeed, it is quite sad that this issue was treated very light in the campus where in fact, it is even worse than those other stuff that we rally for like tuition fee increase and the disapperances of some students. A life was lost this time.
2. The two students who were abducted last year, Karen Empeno and Sherlyn Cadapan, are still alive. This was according from a farmer, who is a member of the militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas, who was able to escape from their place of detention. The farmer saw how the two student-activists were harshly tortured by the military. Yes, they say it is the military. Again, this is still an allegation (for the sake of sensitivity).
3. Smoking inside the campus is already prohibited at all premises. This was after an administrative order was passed that bans smoking inside the campus. I just wonder how will they iplement this given that there are very few police forces inside the campus, the security guards aren't even being followed when they say that you have to wear your ID, and the SSB aren't even seen as very functional. I still even see professors smoking on very public places such as the FC walk. If the professors can't be stopped by the security guards, what is the impetus for the students to do the same? I guess this will not really work given that the No ID, No Entry Policy was just shunned very easily and is not so strictly implemented today.

that's true. my friend even says that former up president dodong nemenzo proudly smokes at fc walk. i'm not even so sure that some follows the admin order. though i haven't seen ma'am diokno on her smoking place recently. i always see her kasi usually after my english 30 class.
Allow me to point out your errors:
1. "Sensitivity" has nothing to do with the word "alleged." It's a matter of attributing the allegation to the right source. But apparently you don't have sources, so what am I blabbering about? Oh by the way, medico legal reports have verified that Cris was beaten to death. I wonder why he was beaten to death. It's not hazing, good gracious, isn't it?
2. Cris's death was not taken lightly by UPD students. I was thinking: were you there at the indignation rally last week?
3. It is always indecent to claim something is more important than another without mentioning what criteria of importance were used. Cris's death is horrifying and "important" at the same time that Karen and Sherlyn's disappearance and the tuition increase are "important." Several things can be equally important at the same time, you know, though of course, not always on the same grounds of significance.
3. Not one, but two farmers have testified that they have seen Karen and Sherlyn in a military stronghold in Bataan. Perhaps it pays to read the Collegian (it's comprehensive, whatever non-tibaks like us may say), instead of relying on the grapevine.
I'm so sorry; I could not help you further in improving this small piece of "writing" of yours. Forgive me if I have been too lazy to point out your other oversights on elementary grammar and punctuation.
i stand corrected regarding the two farmers... i saw it at the collegian the day after i've posted this entry. thanks for that.
at some level, i must say that the death of cris was not treated lightly. i saw progresses within the campus in the past few days. i like how the USC involved student leaders regarding recent updates about the sigma rho officers, which they said is now under preventive suspension. although i must say that the students are still less vigilant about this than the ToFI. i even saw a flyer days ago abt. the ToFI but none about cris's death. maybe, i am just expecting more.
but nonetheless, i respect your opinion and i hope you will also respect mine. =D thanks for the comment, though.
